I bought a Sony Blu-Ray with Google TV a few weeks ago and only found out by reading on the internet that I couldn't play video from the network sites. Why would I want to when I can watch Live TV or DVR recordings from live TV straight through the player? I bought it for the internet browsing while watching TV from my bed and for the BD player, which would have been half of the price of the unit anyway.

Re: Is This the Future of TV Remotes?

Or you can just build on Kinect, which Microsoft already has.

Re: Frequent TV Upgrades Planned by Google

So it looks like first gen is screw'd. Hackers who demand complete access to the internals of a platform, and demand enormous support and then jump on the next platform with an extra USB port, or ump-teenth core are money pits for developers and manufacturers. The size of their market segment is a fraction of percent. Niche market suppliers can only survive with premium products, services and prices which hackers won't support. I was an "early adopter" of the Roku Photo-something 1000 (aka HD1000, etc.). I spent more time updating software and diagnosing and fixing problems than I ever did enjoying my media on it.

Re: Keep a Lookout for New Nettop-sized HTPCs with AMD’s new E-450 APU (It’s the New Hotness)

Ok I've been keeping a look out and the only thing I've come across is the Eee box EB1021-B028E and even that is not really widely available. Everything works and the experience is smooth. Like Bil Jeschke indicated below, I'm also disappointed with boxee and also the fact that they're discontinuing the PC version. So I went out and bought a Apple TV just to install XBMC. I've been a big XBMC fan since the original version on the xbox. By far, it is the best media player I've ever used. I've tried almost all the major media player set-top boxes out there. But felt disappointed by all of them. So I went back a XBMC solution. Its so easy that my 5 year old child can navigate through it without needing any help. Plus, love the customization options to tailor the UI to fit family needs. The UI is easy enough to pass WAF. (Wife Acceptance Factor).

My plan is to buy couple of additional Apple TV G2 boxes and install XBMC on them to run in other rooms of the house. I want to make XBMC the standard interface for all media players in the home. A job well done by the XBMC devs!

Re: XBMC Eden Beta Reveals Myriad Improvements, More Control Over Them

I have been using the beta for a few weeks and been fairly happy with it. The only problems I have are with some of the plugins not working fully with it, but hopfully that will be fixed soon now that it is in full beta mode.
I find the XBMC interface better to use and more responsive then Boxee, and now that Boxee is giving up on PC hardware I just need to get a working Crunchyroll addon for XBMC and I will be able to dump Boxee entirely.

Re: Consumers Demand Extensive and Smooth Connectivity

you know what else consumers want, more and better blog posts

Re: The Reason Google TV Can’t Spoof Its Useragent to Access Sites Like Hulu (At Least Right Now)

Any update now that the Google TV Honeycomb update (finally) came out? Seems to me someone out there should be smart enough to write an app for the Android market that can spoof the flash id in Chrome...

Re: Cord-cutters Made Up 0.18% of the Market in 2010, Expected to Hit 2% Globally in 2015

There is no way I would be without my service. I just heard of all this "cord cutting" and it just seems lame to me. Some people don't even do it legally and it just isn't right. As a customer and employee with DISH, if you don't want to pay the amount other companies are charging you and want more for your money; I have to say you need to come to DISH. DISH just offers so much to their customers that some people don't realize it. My personal favorite it the Sling adapter because it allows me to watch LIVE TV everywhere I go and to view my DVR recordings. I also enjoy the Blockbuster Movie Pass. It allows me to stream thousands of on demand titles, get movies (TV shows and games) through the mail and get 20 extra movie channels from DISH. Both are currently free and worth it. So don't cut the cord just yet. Come to DISH!

Re: Twonky Gets Personal with Recent Releases
Well total time it took for me to find my daughter some insurance was about ten minutes or so. I would argue that those service are only free in terms of monetary cost.

It's really about the trade off between the benefit we derive from the services Google supply based on our data and the cost in privacy of supplying that data. Permission and awareness are the key issues here. Most people won't know or think to turn the transmission off. Most people won't know what kind of data Google keeps on them as a results. Perhaps it's benign in this case. Who is to say it will always be that way?

Re: Will Ultraviolet Raze the Alternative Digital Download Systems?

This service is a complete disaster. Most routers and access points allow you to hide or not transmit your SSID.
